Biden Weighs In on Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day | EWTN News Nightly
President Joe Biden is among those weighing in on Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day. In a statement, the White House said in part, "The campaign of cruelty began on April 24, 1915, when Ottoman authorities arrested Armenian intellectuals and community leaders... In the days, months, and years that followed, one and a half million Armenians were deported, massacred or marched to their deaths." Pope Francis twice called the operation against the Armenians a "genocide", including during his 2016 visit to one of the earliest Christian nations. Turkey accused the Holy Father of a "crusades-like mentality." President Recep Erdogan says the US' use of the term genocide is a risk to bilateral relations. Deputy Director of Education at the Philos Project and a first generation Egyptian-Armenian, Simone Rizkallah, joins to remind us about the genocide that began on this date in 1915 and how it continues to impact Christians from Armenia. President Biden has referred to the Armenian genocide and Pope Francis has used the phrase several times. Rizkallah explains what other world leaders have said. She discusses how life is for Christians in Armenia. She fills us in on any final thoughts.

VIDEOS ON WOMEN

What Feminism Gets Wrong
While the world preaches empowerment for all women, the women it celebrates always seem to fit a certain mold. What does feminism get wrong? And what’s the best approach to understanding femininity? Find out from Simone Rizkallah in this new EDIFY video.

Does the Church Oppress Women?
Recently, Pope Francis reiterated to the editors of Jesuit journal America that there was no possibility of the ordination of women to the Catholic priesthood. The Holy Father’s clear theological explanation, however, provoked one New York polemicist to accuse the pope of “mansplaining.” Since the sexual revolution, especially, a not uncommon objection from voices within and without the Catholic Church holds that the 2000-year-old institution oppresses women. Is this concern a legitimate one or one rooted in misunderstandings in anthropology? After all, Pope St. John Paul II, apologized in his 1995 Letter to Women for occasions “when members of the church have reflected more the attitudes of the culture than the kind of culture that Christianity is supposed to generate in the world.” Using the Letter to Women as a point of departure, theologian Simone Rizkallah, Director of Program Growth at ENDOW (Educating on the Nature and Dignity of Women), will take up this vexed question and help us understand whether the Church is the greatest oppressor, or greatest liberator, of women in history.

The Church Oppresses Women DEBUNKED
Modern secular people have forgotten the role of the Catholic Church in lifting humanity out of ignorance, violence, poverty, and disease. Perhaps most forgotten, is the Catholic contribution to an embrace of the dignity of women. Simone Rizkallah, director of program growth at Endow (Educating on the Nature and Dignity of Women), explains.

VIDEOS ON PERSONAL VOCATION

How to Unite the Church
In 1 Corinthians 10:17, St. Paul says that “because there is one bread, we who are many are one body, for we all partake of the one bread.” Instead of the Church having the Eucharist to celebrate our oneness, Paul suggests that the Eucharist creates our oneness. In this talk, Simone will explore this relationship between the Eucharist and the Mystical Body of Christ, with an emphasis on the reality that partaking in the Eucharist is what makes ecclesial union possible.
